| Judas came with the Jewish leaders, some soldiers, and a large crowd carrying swords and clubs. Judas told the Jewish leaders that he would kiss Jesus so that they would know who to arrest. He came to Jesus and said, "Greetings, teacher," and kissed him. Then Jesus said, "Judas, do you betray me with a kiss?" [1]

| As the soldiers tied Jesus, Peter pulled out his sword and cut off the ear of Malchus, one of the Jewish leaders' servants. Jesus said, "Put the sword away! Don't you know that I could ask the Father for an army of angels to defend me? But I must obey my Father and do what he told me to do, as it has been written before in the Scriptures." Then Jesus healed the man's ear, and soon all the disciples ran away. [2]

| Inside the house, the Jewish leaders gathered to put Jesus on trial. They brought many witnesses who lied about Jesus, but their statements did not agree with each other, so they could not make it look like he was guilty. Jesus did not say anything. [4]

| Jesus said, "I am, and you will see me seated with God and coming in power from heaven." The high priest tore his robes and said, "We do not need any more witnesses. You have heard him say that he is equal with God. What is your judgment?" [6]

| Outside the house, a girl saw Peter and said, "You also were with Jesus, weren't you?" Peter denied it. Later, another girl said the same thing, and Peter denied it a second time. Finally, the people standing around said, "You certainly were with Jesus because you are from the same place." [8]
