Donald G. Bloesch (b. 1928), a noted American theologian, is Professor Emeritus of Theology (1957-1992) at Dubuque Theological Seminary. Bloesch earned a B.A. from Elmhurst College, a B.D. from Chicago Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He did postdoctoral work at the universities of Oxford, Tübingen and Basel, and has written numerous books including the seven-volume systematic theology, Christian Foundations.

Donald Bloesch, characterizing himself a "progressive evangelical" or "ecumenical orthodoxy",[1] has attempted to find a middle ground between Neo-orthodoxy, on the one hand, and "right wing" orthodoxy on the other hand. He claims to have a very high view of Scripture, denounces liberalism, and calls for a creedal theology based upon Holy Scripture. He insists on the primacy of Scripture over "religious experiences," and denies that the Apocrypha and church tradition have an equal standing with the Bible. Karl Barth and John Calvin loom large across the pages of his works.
