Douglas J. Moo

Douglas J. Moo (b. 1950) is a Christian theologian and has been the Blanchard Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College Graduate School since 2000. He previously taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School for over 20 years. Moo received his Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland (1980).

He has published several theological works and commentaries on the Bible; notable among them are An Introduction to the New Testament and A Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans. He is currently writing commentaries on Galatians, Colossians/Philemon, and Hebrews.

"Moo is in a different category again. Doug Moo, I would say, is a much greater Pauline scholar than either of the two [D. A. Carson and John Piper] I just mentioned. One of the things I really respect about Doug Moo is that he is constantly grappling with the text. Where he hears the text saying something which is not what his tradition would have said, he will go with the text. I won’t always agree with his exegesis, but there is a relentless scholarly honesty about him which I really tip my hat off to." [1]
